The Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO–RALG), Hon. Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, has reaffirmed Tanzania’s unwavering commitment to strengthening regional integration through effective and collaborative local governance, emphasizing that Local Governments must remain at the centre of East African integration and sustainable development.

Speaking on 4th November 2026 during the East Africa Local Government Forum (EALGF) in Nairobi, Kenya, Prof. Shemdoe highlighted Tanzania’s commitment to the Forum as a strategic platform for knowledge sharing, mutual learning, exchange of experiences, and collective action aimed at strengthening local governance across the East African Community (EAC). He assured member states that Tanzania remains a reliable partner in advancing the Forum’s objectives and regional cooperation agenda.

"Tanzania remains a dependable partner in advancing the Forum’s objectives and regional cooperation agenda. You can count on Tanzania," Prof. Shemdoe emphasized.

He further reaffirmed Tanzania’s readiness to deepen collaboration with all EAC Ministries responsible for Local Government, underscoring the country’s commitment to sharing experiences, learning from regional best practices, and supporting joint initiatives aimed at strengthening local governance systems and improving service delivery across the Community.

On institutional strengthening, Prof. Shemdoe expressed Tanzania’s strong support for fast-tracking outstanding strategic priorities, particularly the approval of the EACLGA Corporate Strategic Plan 2026–2031 and the development of a sustainable funding strategy. He noted that these instruments are essential in providing the Forum with clear strategic direction, institutional autonomy, and sustainable resources to effectively fulfil its mandate and deliver meaningful results for the people of East Africa.

In recognition of leadership and continuity, Prof. Shemdoe congratulated the outgoing Chairperson for exemplary leadership and dedicated service to the Forum, while warmly welcoming the incoming Chairperson. He assured the new leadership of Tanzania’s full support, alongside that of PMO–RALG, in advancing the Forum’s mission and strengthening cooperation among Local Governments across East Africa.

Tanzania’s reaffirmed commitment underscores its determination to contribute to a united, integrated, and prosperous East Africa, where strong Local Governments serve as engines of inclusive development, effective public service delivery, and improved livelihoods. Through sustained regional cooperation, Tanzania continues to champion a people-centred integration agenda that places Local Governments at the forefront of the East African Community’s development.

The East Africa Local Government Forum (EALGF) was graced by the Chief Guest, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya.
